CLEAN Maldives has announced the launch of the Maldives’ first plastic recycling pilot at Siyam World, under the Plastic Innovation Challenge for the hospitality and foodservice sector.

The pilot pairs Econscious’s recycling technology with Sun Siyam Group’s operational scale to demonstrate a replicable circular-economy model — transforming plastic waste into valuable products such as recycled lumber and benches.

The initiative is supported by UNOPS, funded by the World Bank and implemented by SACEP under the PLEASE Project, with the Climate Collective Foundation as knowledge partner. CLEAN Maldives is also partnering with Kudafaree Council to bring the solution to island communities.
