Climate Certificate for Women in Sustainable Food Systems

Building climate-resilient livelihoods by equipping women entrepreneurs with the skills to lead in sustainable food systems.

CLEAN Maldives trained 17 women entrepreneurs in resilient, sustainable food systems through a dedicated Climate Certificate programme. The initiative was designed to empower women at the intersection of food security and climate action — equipping participants with practical knowledge to build and sustain environmentally responsible businesses.

The programme was delivered in partnership with WISE, Australian Aid and Climate Collective, combining expert facilitation with locally relevant content. Participants gained skills in climate-smart food production, waste reduction, and sustainable sourcing — knowledge directly applicable to island economies across the Maldives.

By investing in women as agents of change within food systems, the programme addresses both gender inclusion and environmental resilience — two of the most pressing challenges facing island communities in the face of climate change.
